Our surgeons are the initiators of new methods of modern rhinoplasty called piezo and preservative-structural rhinoplasty. These techniques of shaping the nose preserve all its vital structures - bones and cartilage. The result is a nose that is natural, functional and long-lasting.
Preservative-structural rhinoplasty, also known as nose correction, is a new branch of surgery that improves the appearance and function of the nose by achieving a proportional appearance of the face and treating breathing problems.
The aesthetics and function of the nose are inextricably linked.
Preservative-structural rhinoplasty, also known as nose correction, is a new branch of surgery that improves the appearance and function of the nose by achieving a proportional appearance of the face and treating breathing problems.
The human brain is evolutionarily adapted to recognize certain signs that can signal to us whether something is good, bad, attractive or repulsive. Thus, in the context of physical appearance and facial structure, proportionality is synonymous with something beautiful, attractive and healthy.
In the triangle of communication, which consists of the eyes, nose and lips, it is unavoidable to mention the importance of the nose. A nose that is not proportional to other facial structures can very quickly distract the attention of the interlocutor , creating a situation that directly affects your self-confidence.
The personal style of the Lohuis Filipović Polyclinic in nose surgery is naturalness with an individual – custom made – approach. The key to a good rhinoplasty is the nose incorporated into the face, which makes it less visible on the face, thus emphasizing the eyes and lips.
When we talk about the bony part of the nose, often referred to as the nasal hump, at the Lohuis Filipović Polyclinic we successfully solve all irregularities by performing the revolutionary Piezo rhinoplasty.
The goal of the rhinoplasty procedure is a natural nose that looks “erased” on the face.
PIEZO rhinoplasty is one of the preservation methods of rhinoplasty by which we try to shape the bony part of the nose with as little effect as possible on the surrounding tissue.
With this type of rhinoplasty, we precisely model your nose, and due to the reduced trauma to the surrounding tissue, we have significantly shortened the recovery period.
Our doctor dr.sc. Peter JFM Lohuis is one of the pioneers of the last 20 years of developing new rhinoplasty methods.
In addition to the PIEZO technique, this also includes STRUCTURAL preservative rhinoplasty, which shapes, moves, modulates and makes the cartilage part of the nose and the tip of the nose more stable instead of being classically cut out and thus drastically weakened over time.
Having written over 200 scientific papers on this topic, with a professional textbook on rhinoplasty Advanced Caucasian Mediterranien Rhinoplasty and the ten-year organization of the international symposium Intercontinental Rhinoplasty – the team of the Lohuis Filipović Polyclinic is at the very top of European rhinoplasty.
Preservative rhinoplasty is a revolutionary method of nose correction whose main task is to preserve the vital structures of the nose without trauma to the surrounding tissue that would otherwise be standard with traditional rhinoplasty.
While classical rhinoplasty was performed with forceps, chisels or scalpels that could not completely isolate the hump and cartilage segment, preservative rhinoplasty uses a piezo/ultrasound technique that shapes bones with millimeter precision without fractures and bleeding.
This technique avoids injury to surrounding tissue, which often occurred with the traditional method of using chisels and hammers, cutting the bone would often damage the bone itself, which would create conditions for the implementation of a subsequent, revision rhinoplasty that would repair newly formed irregularities on the nose.
Rotation of the tip, saddle deformity of the nose and V deformity are just some of the conditions that could have occurred by performing traditional rhinoplasty.
By performing preservative rhinoplasty, the chances of such anomalies occurring are minimal, and due to the precise shaping of bones and structural strengthening of cartilage, the recovery period is significantly shortened.
We see significantly less bruising and swelling in our patients after the procedure, further confirming the effectiveness of this nose surgery
This form of primary rhinoplasty is performed for two reasons:
Rhinoplasty is used to correct various aesthetic problems of the nose such as size, shape, asymmetry or slope. A properly performed procedure will improve the appearance of the face by making the nose less conspicuous and more proportional compared to other segments of the face.
Rhinoplasty can also be used to improve nasal function and treat conditions such as a deviated septum. Rhinoplasty can also be the right solution for people who have problems with air permeability and sinusitis.
PIEZO rhinoplasty is based on an ultrasound method that focuses all the energy on the area we are trying to shape. As the ultrasound waves are focused only on the desired area, the rest of the tissue is not damaged.
Some of the main benefits of PIEZO rhinoplasty include:
The PIEZO method allows the surgeon to approach the nose surgery much more gently. Instead of destructive tissue removal, the surgeon “polishes” the tissue until the desired shape is achieved.
Since the PIEZO method is less invasive, the traces of the operation are almost imperceptible.
A much faster recovery period is expected due to minimal effect on the surrounding tissue.
Due to the preserved compactness of bone and cartilage tissue, the chances of developing complications are reduced, as well as the need to perform revision rhinoplasty.
See what Piezo rhinoplasty is in the video of our doc.dr.sc. Boris Filipović:
Structural rhinoplasty is based on shaping the cartilaginous part of the nose in such a way that it moves, sutures and strengthens the treated part instead of simply removing the part that is excess. In this way, we can achieve a smaller nose, but structurally stronger and thus longer-lived.
Some of the main benefits of STRUCTURAL rhinoplasty include:
natural and individual appearance – cartilage shaping allows us to achieve a unique personality of each nose
In order for you to get acquainted with the concept and idea of the final results, we will do a preoperative visualization of the nose. The resulting visualization will facilitate our operation and direct us towards achieving the desired goal.
The Vectra 3D device helps us with this, which we can predict the expected outcome of the procedure based on the simulation.
Watch how the Vectra simulation works:
Before performing rhinoplasty, it is necessary to take all precautions to ensure that the procedure is effective and without adverse reactions.
Since the procedure is performed under general anesthesia, it is necessary to meet the standard preoperative treatment , which includes laboratory tests and anesthesiological examination.
After conducting basic examinations, it is time for a consultation where our surgeons will introduce you to the procedure and the recovery procedure after surgery.
This is also the time to talk about your health condition, the medications you use, your habits, and previous surgeries (if any).
We pay special attention to the use of drugs that affect blood clotting , such as Andol, Aspirin or Ibuprofen. Due to their blood-thinning properties, we do not recommend using them 1-2 days before the procedure.
On the day of the surgery, the medical staff will escort you to your room. Your plastic surgeon will then talk to you once again about the course of the procedure and answer all your questions.
In the meantime, the anesthesiologist will prepare everything for the application of general anesthesia ,after which the procedure can begin.
When the effect of general anesthesia begins and you fall asleep, the surgeon begins the nose surgery with a small incision on the lower part of the nose. By making an incision in this place, he gains access to all the desired targets on the nose.
Depending on the diagnosis and condition of the nose, we adjust the course of the procedure and shape your nose. Bones are not broken, but shaped, and cartilages are modeled and reoriented instead of being cut out.
After the desired shaping, all segments of the nose are sewn and secured with dissolvable stitches.
Finally , we close the skin and place nasal swabs and an aluminum patch.
After the operation, you will wake up in the operating room, and when you have fully recovered from the effects of general anesthesia, we will take you to the recovery room. Visits for family members are allowed, but if you feel well, we can release you for home care after just a few hours. We use small sponge swabs that are removed from the nose the next day after surgery.
In case necessary, you can spend the night in our day hospital with 24-hour care by medical staff.
Recovery after surgery does not take long. In the first 24 hours, there may be minimal swelling in the eye area , which is especially pronounced if you have thinner skin. Such conditions usually disappear within 7 days.
Patches and stitches are removed a week after the procedure, and a return to daily activities can be expected 10 days after the operation. Playing sports and wearing glasses is possible for 3 weeks after surgery.
According to the experience of our clients, the recovery of the nose correction usually passes with minimal complications, but this does not mean that we should not take into account the possible risks that may arise from the implementation of this procedure.
Potential complications of PIEZO rhinoplasty may include:
You will discuss any potential risks with your surgeon before agreeing to the procedure.
That is why we emphasize conducting consultations as an inseparable segment of the entire process where you can find out the answers to all the questions you are interested in, from the surgery itself, the price of cosmetic nose surgery to the already mentioned complications.
The goals of preservative rhinoplasty can vary depending on your preferences, but also the assessment of professional staff. Some of the main goals of preservative rhinoplasty include:
One of the main goals of rhinoplasty is to improve the appearance of the nose. If we want to change the size or shape of the nose, the task of rhinoplasty is to adapt your nose to the overall aesthetics of the face as much as possible.
Rhinoplasty also has a role to play in treating breathing problems such as deviated septum, narrowing of the nasal passages or removal of polyps.
Rhinoplasty is also used to treat scars and deformities caused by congenital anomalies or injuries to the nose.
The size or shape of the nose that deviates from the rest of the segments on the face can distract the attention of the person you are communicating with. The goal of rhinoplasty is to adjust the nose to your face, making it perfectly proportional to the rest of the face.
Changes in your face can significantly affect your self-confidence by emphasizing your appearance in public and getting rid of fears that you have developed years before performing rhinoplasty.
