Are you tired of looking tired?
Upper eyelid surgery or upper blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that rejuvenates the contours of the upper eyelids.
Blepharoplasty is a very delicate and precise operation to remove excess skin of the upper eyelid, the muscle located under the skin and in some cases the fat of the eye, with the fact that there is always an asymmetry of the eyes that needs to be corrected.
It is important to emphasize that there are important differences in the eyes of men and women. Therefore, blepharoplasty in women and men is significantly different in the preoperative planning and execution of the procedure itself.
The final result must be completely different:
The first facial feature we notice in another person is the eyes. Our eyes are powerful transmitters of emotions and thoughts and non-verbal communication in general. The eyes speak volumes, both intentionally and unintentionally, about who we are and what we feel.
Since the eyes are the center of attention, we are able to notice even the smallest changes in their appearance. As we age, it is in the eye area that the first signs of aging begin to appear. This is because the skin around the eyes is the thinnest and most sensitive on our face.
The skin that forms the eyelids enlarges, the muscles below weaken, and the fat around the eye begins to be visible, which leads to excess skin of the upper eyelids and the appearance of bags around the eyes.
Eyelid aging affects an older look with less freshness in the face, but it can also create the impression that you are tired, sad or angry even when you are happy or feel good and rested.
Some people have a family congenital excess of skin on the upper eyelids. In these cases, a person in their 20s or early 30s will benefit from upper blepharoplasty by treating the anatomical variant of the eyelids rather than the signs of eyelid aging.
Sometimes, in addition to looking older, excess skin tissue around the upper eyelids can result in impaired vision. Removal of this tissue leads to a significant improvement in vision problems.
Upper eyelid surgery is a safe procedure with a rejuvenating effect that lasts for several years. Recovery after the procedure is quick and lasts up to 7 days, and the scars are imperceptible. The upper blepharoplasty will restore the emphasis on your eyes with a natural “unoperated” appearance.
A great advantage is that upper eyelid surgery can be successfully performed in combination with other procedures such as facelift or eyebrow lift, which restores symmetry and achieves a harmonious appearance of the entire face.
After eyelid correction, most patients feel more confident thanks to a rejuvenated appearance.
The goal of upper eyelid surgery is to remove excess skin and fat accumulations in the area and achieve a natural and long-lasting result.
You may be a candidate for upper blepharoplasty if you have:
There is no age limit for performing correction of the upper eyelids. Women and men of all ages can undergo this procedure equally.
For some people, the results of upper eyelid surgery can last a lifetime, while for others, drooping eyelids can reappear after many years.
Knowledge of anatomical variations of the face and the relationship of various facial features in the correction of the upper eyelids are of utmost importance. At Lohuis Filipović Polyclinic, we are dedicated to finding the best option for each patient individually.
Upper blepharoplasty as a procedure can be extended if your anatomical features of the face dictate it: drooping eyebrows, ptosis of the eyelid, excess skin under the eyebrows. Such an extended blepharoplasty will allow for a natural and rejuvenated appearance of your eyes.
Extended blepharoplasty may include the following procedures:
We will discuss all surgical options in detail, and after analyzing your face, we will decide together which type of procedure best suits your needs.
If you have drooping eyebrows that are the result of aging or an innate family variant, a procedure called an eyebrow lift – browlift is an option that will rejuvenate your eyes.
In case you have drooping eyebrows, performing a blepharoplasty procedure is not the best option for you because it will result in additional lowering of your eyebrows, and the effects of blepharoplasty will not be noticeable.
A drooping eyelid (ptosis of the eyelid) is a condition in which the lower border of the upper eyelid is lowered towards the pupil. Sometimes this condition is masked by excess skin on the upper eyelid.
For this reason, it is necessary to analyze your condition in detail and in case you have eyelid ptosis, undergo a procedure called eyelid ptosis correction
In case you have ptosis of the eyelid, performing the upper blepharoplasty alone is not a good option for you because it will result in additional emphasis on ptosis, and he results of the upper eyelid correction will not be visible.
Eyelid ptosis correction is a procedure that can be performed in the same act as the upper blepharoplasty and is performed regularly by our LF team of surgeons when indicated.
When we lack volume in the upper eyelid area, by adding small amounts of dermal fillers, we can beautifully rejuvenate the eyes and give them the necessary freshness.

To achieve the desired results, before the above blepharoplasty, it is necessary to undergo an examination by an aesthetic surgeon to set the goals of the operation and determine the anatomical characteristics of the procedure area.
During the examination, our surgeon evaluates the ptosis of the eyebrows and eyelids, the function of the eyelid lifter muscles, the laxity of the eyelids and the existence of asymmetry. Particular attention is paid to assessing the position of the eyebrows and upper eyelids.
Correction of the upper eyelids is most often carried out under local anesthesia, with mild sedatives. However, the procedure can also be performed under general anesthesia in carefully selected patients or when it is performed in combination with some other procedures (lower eyelids, facelift, etc.).
After admission to the polyclinic, your facial plastic surgeon will talk to you once again about the course of the procedure and answer all your questions. After that, the medical staff will prepare you for the operating room.
The first step in blepharoplasty is to measure and mark the location of the skin incision that is placed in the natural fold of the upper eyelid. Depending on the structure of your eyelid, the procedure takes between 30 and 40 minutes per eye.
An anesthetic is first applied to the area around the eyes, after which the procedure is performed.
Then, a certain amount of skin, soft tissue and muscles, and sometimes fat, is removed to achieve a satisfactory youthful appearance of the eyelids and improve vision.
The amount of tissue that is removed is different for each patient. After removing the tissue, the incisions are precisely closed with thin stitches.
After the procedure, you will receive cold compresses that you will keep on your eyes for a short time. If you feel well and your condition is confirmed by medical staff, you will be discharged to home care an hour after the procedure.
In order to ensure a quick recovery, the most important thing is to follow the instructions of our professional staff that you will receive when you leave the polyclinic.
It is recommended to cool the operated area with compresses for the first few hours, and if necessary for the first few days after the procedure to reduce eyelid swelling.
The initial healing stage lasts from 5 to 7 days, after which the stitches on the skin are removed. After removing the stitches, we recommend applying an antibiotic cream to the suture site to ensure proper healing.
Return to work is possible after the stitches are removed, and full recovery is expected 2 weeks after upper eyelid surgery.
The result of the procedure is visible immediately, and the final result is visible after the stitches are removed. Then you will see a clear difference and a dramatic change in appearance.
You will discuss all the potential risks of upper eyelid surgery with your surgeon before agreeing to the procedure. The formation of bruising on the upper eyelids is the most common side effect that subsides after a few days.
Thanks to the great expertise and many years of experience of our cosmetic surgeons, possible complications are minimized.
In rarer cases, complications that require additional treatments are possible: residual excess skin, asymmetry, scarring and over-correction.
The main goal of LF Polyclinic is to improve the quality of life and health of our clients by providing them with top-notch healthcare services.
