Varicose veins, which are classified as vascular lesions, occur when the valves inside the vessel are no longer able to direct blood all the way to the heart. Due to the increased elasticity of the veins, the blood is retained in one place, and the weakened valves allow the blood to return back to the capillaries.

It should be noted that the blood in the veins is enriched with carbon dioxide, which, along with other metabolic waste, should be expelled from the body. If such blood lingers longer in your veins, the retained waste material can cause sluggishness in the legs, tightness, redness, or even pain.

From an aesthetic perspective, too much strain on the capillaries will result in visible marks on your skin. Dilated capillaries on the surface of the skin can be associated with a river delta, or spider web, which is why this diagnosis is better known in the world as “spider veins”.

Varicose veins on the surface of the skin, especially capillaries, rarely cause major complications, but they should not be ignored as a warning and still consult a doctor in order to prevent major health problems in the future.

Once a capillary or vein on the surface of the skin is dilated, it loses its function and cannot return to its original state. In that case, the only remaining solution is to close it.

By disabling a diseased capillary or vein, blood will be diverted to healthy vessels, and a closed capillary or vein will collapse and turn into connective tissue.

The main advantage of this method is an adequate approach in which incisions or surgical removal are not even necessary. The procedure is simple, painless, and our clients immediately return to their daily activities.

Laser removal of veins and capillaries is considered a more effective method than sclerotherapy, mostly because laser treatment does not require needle penetration, which makes it more desirable among our clients.

Before using the laser, it is possible, but in most cases not necessary, to give a local anesthetic in the form of a cream or gel. Even without the presence of an anesthetic, you will not feel anything more than a slight prickling.

Once the doctor turns on the device, he will place a probe that emits laser energy against your skin. Hemoglobin in blood vessels absorbs laser radiation, which affects collagen, the basic protein for the structure of our vessels.

Once irritated, collagen in the vascular tissue results in the shrinkage of diseased veins and capillaries and complete deterioration of the wall occurs. Blood can no longer pass through them, and the closed capillary or vein deteriorates over time and becomes part of the connective tissue. The procedure takes a few minutes, depending on the amount and the affected area.

After the first treatment, the results are visible. In the event that the superficial capillaries and veins are slightly wider in diameter, the time it takes for them to disappear will be somewhat longer. If not immediately, the complete elimination of varicose veins and capillaries will be visible 2-6 weeks after the procedure.

In the event that the veins and capillaries are visible even after this period, it will be necessary to arrange another procedure so that they disappear forever.

Immediately after the procedure, redness is possible as a standard side effect.

Very rarely, hyperpigmentation occurs – a change in the color of the skin due to the effect of the laser on the surrounding tissue. Such a phenomenon will usually disappear in a few weeks or months.

After the procedure, you can continue with your daily activities, with the recommendation of a slightly lower intensity of activity on the first day after the treatment.

A compression stocking, unlike sclerotherapy, does not need to be worn, except in rare cases on the recommendation of a doctor.

After the procedure, it is also necessary to avoid long-term exposure to the sun and apply a factor 50 cream to the treated area.

Although a very effective method, superficial removal of veins and capillaries with a laser is sometimes not enough. It is believed that varicose veins with a diameter of more than 5 mm require more serious procedures, such as laser vein surgery, in which a catheter with a laser probe is placed directly into the affected vein and it is destroyed.

In addition to laser surgery, there is also radiofrequency ablation of varicose veins, which destroys the diseased vein in the same way as a laser, only with the use of a probe that emits a heat of 120°C instead of laser energy, whereby the affected vessel shrinks and collapses.

These two methods require more detailed preparation of our clients, and a thorough examination, such as color Doppler ultrasound, determines the speed of blood flow through the diseased vein and other obstacles such as a blood clot or poor valve function.

However, for veins and capillaries smaller than 5 mm, an attempt at laser removal of veins and capillaries is the best solution that guarantees painless treatment and a quick recovery.
