An examination that reveals problems and also helps in recognizing urinary incontinence
After the diagnostics, at the Lohuis Filipović Polyclinic, we create a therapy tailored to your needs, which we try to most effectively eliminate the problems of urinary incontinence or some other disorder of the urinary system.
Ultrasound examination has been used in medicine for years to successfully diagnose various health disorders. By creating a clear image of a certain area, you get an insight into the structure of the tissue and the development of potential abnormalities that disrupt your health.
We also use this method of examination when diagnosing various problems related to the work and function of your urinary system. With ultrasound of the urinary tract , it is possible to examine the organs of the small pelvis, such as the prostate, bladder or kidneys.
The results obtained by ultrasound are used to identify possible disorders, of which urinary incontinence problems are particularly distinguished.
After the diagnostics, at the Lohuis Filipović Polyclinic, we create a therapy tailored to your needs, which we try to eliminate the problems caused by urinary incontinence or some other urinary tract disorder in the most efficient way.
Ultrasound of the urinary tract should be performed when you notice symptoms such as:
These occurrences can cause numerous discomforts and worsen the quality of your life, and timely diagnosis can prevent their development.
You do not need to prepare for an ultrasound examination. Depending on the guidelines given to you by your doctor, you may need to come to the ultrasound with a full bladder.
Come to the examination in comfortable clothes. Avoid clothing that would tighten around your waist and thus create unnecessary discomfort and pressure in the abdominal area.
Come for an ultrasound a few minutes before your scheduled appointment so that we can introduce you to the procedure and prepare you for the examination.
When you arrive at the polyclinic, our staff will direct you to the room with the ultrasound equipment.
You will sit comfortably on an elevated table, and the doctor will apply a water-based gel to your abdominal area.
The doctor will move the probe over the skin in a circular motion, and the ultrasound will emit sound waves that will bounce off when they reach a certain organ, such as the kidney.
The reflected sound waves return to the probe, and are displayed in the form of visual content. By moving the ultrasound along the lower part of the abdomen, it is possible to gain insight into the structure of the kidneys, bladder and prostate.
During the examination, the doctor may ask you to change the way you breathe, or to change the position in which you are.
If you came to the examination with a full bladder, there is a possibility that the ultrasound will be performed twice; The first time is when you have a full bladder and the second time after urinating. An examination after urination is important to assess the remaining urine.
If urination is normal, there should be no residual urine in the bladder. However, if ultrasound determines the opposite, it can indicate the potential development of some of the urinary tract diseases.
Ultrasound can also diagnose other problems.
If you are unable to hold urine during the examination, for example, by pressing the ultrasound probe on the abdominal area, there is a possibility that you are suffering from urinary incontinence.
The weakened muscles of the urethra and bladder can no longer perform a complete contraction, resulting in unwanted urine leakage.
After the ultrasound, an additional check of the findings is performed by a radiologist.
The examination does not take longer than 30 minutes, and after the tests, you can go home immediately. You can expect the final results no later than two days after the tests, and after the ultrasound, you can arrange the next examination with a radiologist.
In addition to ultrasound, it may be necessary to perform other tests, some of which can be performed in the comfort of your own home:
After the examination, we perform a full analysis of your findings in order to provide you with the best possible solution for combating urinary tract diseases.
Of the wide opus of urinary tract disorders, we pay special attention to urinary incontinence.
It is estimated that about 50% of women suffer from this problem, and the worrying fact is that only one third decide to seek professional help when they notice symptoms.
Urinary incontinence is recognizable by the involuntary outflow of urine, and due to the discomfort it causes, it can affect a person’s mental health. Depression and social isolation are just some of the problems that can occur due to the inability to control one’s own bladder.
Although the following types of incontinence result in the same outcome, they are caused by different factors:
It occurs due to weakness of the pelvic floor muscles and increased mobility of the urethra.
Incontinence caused by an enlarged detrusor, a muscle inside the bladder that causes an immediate urge to urinate.
It occurs due to a large amount of residual urine, due to which there is an overflow of “excess” urine.
Before conducting examinations and necessary treatments, we place special emphasis on communication with clients.
We are aware that incontinence can cause embarrassing situations in public, and starting a conversation about this topic in itself can be very sensitive and sometimes disparaging for you.
