Before making a dental splint, your teeth will be examined by a dentist. You will take an X-ray and make an impression of the teeth and make additional measurements of the displacement of the lower jaw.
Patients are also advised to do an endoscopy in their sleep, i.e. somnoscopy to determine the exact location of airway obstruction.
The dental splint is safe and adapted to you only after all the tests and measurements have been performed. After the splint is made, you come to the polyclinic for collection and exact adjustment.
After a period of wearing a dental splint during the night, it is necessary to do a follow-up examination and sometimes a sleep study with a dental splint to determine if the splint fits you and if the problems of snoring and apnea have decreased.

Wearing a dental splint can sometimes cause certain problems, such as pain in the temporal and jaw joint that moves the lower jaw. Pain that occurs in the morning after sleep usually disappears during the day. It can be reduced by massaging the muscles around the jaw joint in the morning after waking up.

During normal sleep, the muscles that control the tongue and soft palate keep the airway open. When the muscles relax, the airway narrows and this can lead to snoring.
If there is excessive relaxation of the upper respiratory tract muscles, airway obstruction can occur, which leads to interruption of breathing during sleep, i.e. apnea.
A slight movement of the lower jaw by just one centimeter forward causes the tongue and larynx to be pulled out into the anterior position. The soft palate also moves forward along with the uvula, which opens the airways, that is, prevents the airways from closing during sleep.
