Uroflow

Device that measures the speed and quality of the urine stream

UROFLOW – AN OVERVIEW THAT MAKES THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN INCONTINENCE AND NORMAL BLADDER FUNCTION

This problem can greatly worsen the quality of your life and cause discomfort that can result in social isolation, anxiety and even depression.

Urinary incontinence is a disorder characterized by involuntary outflow of urine, and it is estimated that as many as 50% of women have some form of this problem.

This problem can greatly worsen the quality of your life and cause discomfort that can result in social isolation, anxiety and even depression.

Only one-third of women with symptoms of this disease seek professional help, which is an indicator of how much discomfort and fear this disorder causes.

At the Lohuis Filipović Polyclinic, we have taken care of a friendly approach and the implementation of various diagnostic examinations with which we can determine your incontinence problems.

One of these examinations is uroflow, i.e. mycchiometry. With this examination, we measure the speed of the urine stream, and depending on the results, we determine the type of urinary incontinence and the methods of treating the disorder.

WHAT IS UROFLOW EXAM?

Uroflow is a type of examination that records the speed of the flow of urine.

This type of examination is important for the correct diagnosis of bladder-related disorders, and depending on the results, various problems can be recognized, such as an enlarged prostate, narrowing of the urethra or weaker bladder activity.

Your doctor may opt for this type of test if you notice difficulty urinating, have a slower stream, or can’t empty yourself completely (urinary retention).

For the uroflow test, we do not need an analysis of the chemical composition of urine. Because of this, it is not necessary to urinate in a cup, but in a special device that will record the speed of the jet.

In order for the results to be valid, it is necessary to dispense a minimum of 200ml of urine, and the device records the speed in milliliters per second (ml/s) during the test.

The results obtained are used to diagnose possible disorders, and in order to assess the disorder as accurately as possible, it may be necessary to perform the test 2-3 times.

WHAT DOES THE PREPARATION FOR THE UROFLOW EXAMINATION LOOK LIKE?

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or if you consume certain medications, herbs or supplements that could affect your bladder function.

In addition to the tests, the doctor will talk to you to get a better insight into your health problems. Our patients are often reluctant to start a conversation about incontinence and related disorders because of embarrassment and lack of information.

What needs to be emphasized is that you have nothing to be ashamed of and that this disorder is more common than you think. With an honest and open conversation, we can more easily come up with solutions to your problems and try to help you cope with fears and experienced discomforts.

We are aware of how much discomfort urinary incontinence can cause, and we cannot achieve much by avoiding the necessary dialogue. At the Lohuis Filipović Polyclinic, we nurture a pedagogical approach and work with you to remove incontinence from your life together.

UROFLOW EXAMINATION PROCEDURE

The uroflow examination is performed in a normal toilet that has a built-in uroflowmeter. This device records the speed of your liquid and gives us precise results that later serve us to give an adequate diagnosis.

We give you the privacy you need to be as relaxed as possible and so that we can get the most realistic results.

WHAT SHOULD THE RESULTS OF THE UROFLOW REVIEW LOOK LIKE?

Immediately after urinating, the device records the speed of the liquid and stores the data. Whether the examination results are normal and within the limits depends on the gender. The average liquid stream in men varies from 10-21 ml per second, while in women the average is 15-18 ml per second.

A slower stream and a small amount of urine can indicate problems such as an enlarged prostate, narrowing or obstruction of the urinary tract.

WHAT OTHER TESTS NEED TO BE PERFORMED?

As part of the treatment of incontinence, and for a more accurate diagnosis, the doctor may refer you to carry out other diagnostic procedures, such as:

  • keeping a urinary diary
  • Filling out the questionnaire
  • Ultrasound of the urinary tract
  • Urine culture
  • Cystoscopic examination
  • urodynamic examination

These tests can give a better insight into your health condition, and the results obtained make it easier for us to come to a concrete and individual solution.

I did rhinoplasty along with face tight treatment and the results were more than satisfactory. The guys (Boris and Peter) did everything at the same time, very professionally and in the shortest possible timeframe. I was out of tampons in 2 days, and my bruise recovery does not take longer than 7 days. Very gentle […]

For so long I was dissatisfied with the breathing and the appearance of my nose. Of course the first step was to google rhinoplasty and read comments on forums of the people who did it in Croatia. That did not help because the amount of negative experiences only scared me. But I also read that […]

A month ago, I was on a lip lift with Dr. Filipović. The result is fantastic, as was the experience of consultation and surgery. The doctor and nurses are professional and approachable and inspire confidence. The lip lift turned out great and looks natural, but it’s a big enough change that it affected the look […]
