Scholarship holders are required to take the European Board Exam and the end of the scholarship. The European Certification Board for Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery was established in 2013. Its mission is to improve the quality of facial plastic surgery that is available to the public in Europe. The European Committee is dedicated to measuring the qualifications of candidates for surgery according to rigorous standards.
Among the key efforts of the EBCFPRS is the administration of the European Board Exam in Facial Plastic Surgery. This is done in collaboration with the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ABFPRS.org).
This exam has been developed over decades with considerable effort. Questions are tested in the field and selected only when they prove to be in exact correlation with expertise. The oral portion of the exam is conducted by senior examiners from Europe and the United States. Over a period of 3 hours, the subjects are presented with a total of 12 case scenarios. Examiners are coordinated by senior examiners. The expected answers and questions are discussed throughout the all-day session, ensuring maximum fairness and reliability of the exam results. Both written and oral results are subject to rigorous quality control.
The exam is only one part of the certification process. Applicants for both the regular and second track must submit 100 relevant surgical cases over a period of 2 years (50 per year). This surgical experience is reviewed by an expert committee. Of course, all of the surgeon’s credentials, including the certification of the medical board and the specialist committee, are reviewed during the process. Only when all the requirements are met, successful candidates receive the “EBCFPRS Board Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon” certificate.
