Peter JFM Lohuis is a surgeon in the Department of Head and Neck Surgery at the Netherlands Cancer Institute – Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Hospital in Amsterdam and in the Department of Facial Plastic Reconstructive Surgery of the Lohuis Filipović Medical Group and the Bergman Clinic.
He completed his surgical training in otolaryngology/head and neck surgery at the University Medical Center in Utrecht, where he also obtained his doctorate. Additional postgraduate training included fellowships in head and neck oncology surgery, facial plastic reconstructive surgery, and head and neck microvascular surgery and reconstruction.
He is a reviewer for many scientific journals and has also been a member of several editorial and review boards.
His resume includes more than 100 publications in peer-reviewed journals, several book chapters, and three published books.
Dr. Lohuis has received many awards throughout his career and has served on the board of directors of the European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery (EAFPS) and the International Federation of Facial Plastic Surgery Societies (IFFPSS). He is the leader of several scientific and teaching courses, is an examiner for the European Board of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (EBEORL-HNS); and the Certification Board of the European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery (BCEAFPS) and trains fellows in oncological head and neck surgery and plastic reconstructive facial surgery. He has been an invited guest lecturer in numerous countries on various scientific topics. However, his main areas of interest include head and neck ablative oncology surgery, head and neck reconstructive oncology surgery, skin cancer and skin cancer reconstruction, facial nerve palsy rehabilitation, rhinoplasty and nose reconstruction.
Since 2018. Dr. Lohuis is the co-founder and co-owner of Lohuis-Filipović Medical Group, Lohuis-Filipovic Academy and Trademed Medical Company, all based in Zagreb, Croatia. In 2011, he passed the European Research Society exam for the title of ‘somnologist’.
