The main test that detects bacterial pathogens of infection
Urine culture is a urine test that proves whether or not there is a bacterial cause of urinary tract infection (whether or not there is a bacterium) in a urine sample.
Urine culture is done when there are signs of illness that indicate a urinary tract infection, and these can be:
In women:
In men:
In order to obtain the most purposeful results, and thus purposeful treatment – urine must be concentrated, which means that it must stand in the bladder for at least 3 hours before taking a urine sample.
If this is impossible due to frequent urination, the patient should definitely emphasize this when submitting the sample for analysis.
Furthermore, unless otherwise determined by the prescribing physician, urine for urine culture should not be taken during antibiotic treatment for any reason (if medically possible) from 5 to 8 days from the last dose of the drug to sampling.
