During sleep the growth hormones are released, which are essential for cell growth. This means that if we do not sleep well, our quality of life will decree, we will age faster and be more prone to different disease.

If you are unsure as to whether your symptoms require medical attention, the following recommendation applies from a sleep medicine standpoint:

  • If you suffer from increased fatigue for more than three to four weeks for no apparent reason 
  • If you have to take few "microsleeps" during the day

Snoring

When we go to sleep, our musculature upper airways relax. Sometimes during breathing this  causes constriction at the level of the soft palate and the tongue base, by which they start to vibrate loudly: producing snore sound.

Although most snorers do not exceed a noise level of 20-30 decibels (dB), peak values of more than 80-90 dB can be observed which constitutes the volume of for example, busy highway.
